I hate myself. I have like 2 WIPs in Harry Potter and an original story to update. But why am I rewriting this? Ugh. But here goes.

Timetravel Fun
Okay, so ever since I realized Kakashi is the only one of his original team that didn't end up becoming a Jinchuuriki at some point, I've been SO TEMPTED to write a Timetravel Fic where Kakashi takes the half of Kuruma that Minato originally sealed within himself.
Seriously, imagine it.
Another connection to/with Naruto.
Solves Kakashi's chakra problem (if Obito still gets "crushed" & gives Kakashi his sharingan), or an extra power-up if Obito doesn't have to.
Another connection to Rin, if she still gets kidnapped and is forced to become a Jinchuuriki.
Kakashi would now also either have to hide the fact he's a Jinchuuriki from the rest of the village (somehow), or he'll likely face similar treatment to the one Naruto got.
OR, maybe Kakashi goes on a training journey with Jiraiya for +2 years? Jiraiya is/was the current sealing/fuuinjutsu master of Konoha at the time too, after all. In a time-travel situation Kakashi wouldn't feel the need to continue with Anbu, and it'd get him away from Danzo as well. It's a win-win, as long as Kakashi gets back in time to save Itachi from Danzo's (& Tobi's) manipulation.
- (Seriously though, imagine how strong Kakashi could have gotten (quicker) if he got trained by a Sannin - just like Sasuke, Naruto and Sakura got training. Kakashi is SELF-TAUGHT since he was 14y old, after Minato's death if not earlier. Something I think a lot of people forget.)
On the bright side, Kakashi would have Naruto either way. Especially since it'd be a time-travel and Kakashi would have the (better) mental stability to at least hang out with Naruto even if Minato & Kushina die (again).
(Kakashi would likely still look 14y old at Naruto's birth though, so... Probably no adoption? Unless he can sneak off Naruto to Tsunade, who is technically Naruto's last known living relative at the time who would semi-available option to adopt Naruto. If Kakashi can find her).
Also, Kakashi befriending Kuruma early(-ier) would be kind of sweet tbh.

so many problems with hinata's character could've been solved if she was a root sleeper agent
#naruto#naruto shippuden#hyuuga hinata#no but listen. LISTEN#i already think it's bs that kumo tried to steal the byakugan it makes no sense on any level for them to do that#it makes even less sense for them to try to do that by just sending some guy into the house where EVERYONE CAN SEE THROUGH WALLS#it makes even less sense than THAT for them to play the victim when the guy inevitably got killed#UNLESS no one in kumo ever gave him that order bc he was a root plant like kabuto used to be#and kumo thought konoha was looking for an excuse to start shit but make it look like their fault#anyway#hinata's year group includes four future clan heads two back-up heirs and konoha's jinchuuriki (also sakura)#hinata doesn't question things EVER. not whether team eight should kill fellow konoha nin not her own backstory nothing#SO#order of occurrences:#hyuuga elders deem hinata a weak heir ->#hinata is 'kidnapped' by 'kumo' ->#hinata requires routine psych evals to deal with the trauma ->#it's kept quiet bc the clan doesn't want to look weak ->#the evals are held with fuu or another root member from the yamanaka clan ->#what it actually is is a constant stream of conditioning appointments that double as mission reports ->#hinata is entirely in the dark about this and is entirely unaware of the catastrophic effects it's having on her psyche ->#hinata works for root (again entirely without realizing) from ages 3 to 16 ->#danzou and fuu both die when sasuke attacks the gokage summit ->#hinata's ''therapy appointments'' suddenly stop and she's told it's bc she no longer needs them ->#the last order hinata ever got was during the pain invasion when she was told to interfere in the naruto vs pain fight ->#the intention of this was to both remove her from the playing field and piss off naruto into killing pain ->#hinata never talked to naruto about her confession bc she doesn't really remember it ->#she's aware that something happened due to the things the people around her have said but she's been taught to not ask questions ->#hinata goes into the war without having the ''die for naruto'' command de-programmed from her fucked-up little head ->#hinata tries to die for naruto again and neji dies instead ->

for the ship asks thing!! 💤
Ship that is canon but you don’t ship:
Sakura/Sasuke seems like an obvious answer (I feel like Sakura deserved a better story than what was provided for this ship)
but also MinatoKushina. I have nothing really against the ship, i just...I don't see it. This might be the fact I'm not particularly fond of Minato while I adore Kushina, but really I think it's largely because Kushina deserved to be portrayed as more than a housewife and I'm still bitter.

Insomnia was hell. And unfortunately, also very common in the shinobi world. Ami was used to not sleeping, barely doing it even when she was safe. But trying to relearn- or in Gaara’s case, learn, how to sleep was far worse. So the last thing he needed was someone, Naruto, pointing his exhaustion out.
“Among friends, you don’t have to be a good host all the time.” She gave the redhead a half smile, unsurprised when Naruto disappeared at the mention of reports. “Only if you don’t mind the company?” Ami left the choice to them, not minding if the answer was no.

i love this idea but i just had a thought
the first kazekage mentioned that they already had shukaku, right? so what if every member of the rookie nine is a jinchuuriki.... except sasuke. bc the uchiha clan didn't get a bijuu.
why give a bijuu to the clan that can control them with their eyes? isn't this just a way to get the other clans on more equal grounds with the uchiha, anija? can we truly trust them after everything madara has done? surely some of them must still support him. you yourself once said that many members of the uchiha held madara in high esteem. do you believe that that's changed? if even now after killing him you still hold warmth toward madara in your heart, surely members of his own family would feel the same. we must choose which clans to distribute the bijuu to carefully, anija. the uchiha simply aren't a rational choice.
The Rookie 9, except they’re all Jinchuuriki. When they first learned it was a thing they could do, Tobirama and Hashirama agreed they should seal all 9 of them. The real argument was that Hashirama wanted to distrubute them as olive branches and to get sick deals in exchange, while Tobirama wanted their existance to be nearly unknown and the 9 tailed beasts to be their village’s trump card. In one reality, Hashirama wins the argument, but in this one Tobirama wins. The beasts are caught and given to the 8 (as Uzumaki’s have obviously claimed the 9th) biggest clans in the village; Shukaku-Inuzuka, Matabi-Yamanaka, Isobu-Nara, Goku-Akimichi, Kokeu-Uchiha, Saiken-Senju, Chomei-Aburame, and Gyuki-Hyuga.
#naruto#naruto shippuden#this way gaara can still be Like That#bc that was fun#but also now team seven is team (unofficial) no jinchuuriki#bc no one is supposed to know about naruto#this idea does require a slight shift in set-up tho#so i'd have the nara take kokuou (it and shikamaru can bond over doing nothing in the forest) and the akimichi take isobu (rolling buddies!#choumei works great with the aburame#i think maybe i'd give matatabi to the hyuuga? their clan crest is fire and i think there's some symbolism to be had with the branched tail#gyuuki works well with the whole eight triagrams thing but idk if that's what an outsider would first think of#although it might make sense to give them the second most powerful to appease their ego lol#hashirama being who he is i can see him giving saiken to the inuzuka just bc it has the word dog in his name lol#but he wouldn't know that so probably it wouldn't occur to him#ok so. hm....#naruto + kurama. shikamaru + kokuou. chouji + isobu. hinata + gyuuki. shino + choumei. kiba + matatabi. ino + son gokuu. sakura + saiken#i do think hashirama would see giant slug and immediately go ''oh! like katsuyu!'' (which i think katsuyu would NOT appreciate lol)#the whole dog v cats thing is more commonly dogs v monkeys in japan but i still think giving matatabi to the akimichi would be funny#matatabi is fairly polite and kiba is. not that. so they'd clash#i think ino and son gokuu butting heads would be hilarious. they would piss each other off so freaking much#would make the akatsuki's job both easier and harder#also would make itachi's deal with ''madara'' almost meaningless lmao#oh wait it already was nevermind#anyway i freaking love this#OH WAIT I HAD ANOTHER IDEA#ok so what if sakura getting chosen as saiken's next vessel is the tipping point for sasuke leaving???#bc he's so much stronger than her. and he NEEDS power to kill itachi. and every single one of the rookie nine is getting bijuu bombs but hi#suddenly orochimaru's curse seal is a lot more appreciated

Tsunade is the best written female character in Naruto because she had a life outside her team.
Like, if you can erase the main male characters out of the life of a female character and you still have a female character, that's something.
Who is Rin outside Kakashi and Obito? "Oh she almost became a jinchuuriki—" that event was made do that Kakashi and Obito couple awaken their mangekyou sharingan. Besides being their crush or teammate, who was she?
Kushina was more than a mother and a wife, right? But what happened to her dream of being Hokage? Why did Minato get the job instead? She has something going on for herself, but it was erased even before she died.
Yahiko and Nagato were as lonely as Konan was. At least none of them have anything beside each other, which isn't exactly good, but at least they were equals.
Sakura was someone before Naruto and Sasuke. She had Ino, she had a family— and in Shippuden they treat those things like there's nothing more to it. The focus is her role within Team 7, her role as the girl in the love triangle, her role as a healer that she took because of them. You're telling me that Sasuke and Naruto were gone for years and just trained and waited for them? In the Chunning Exams we were shown how much Ino and Sakura meant for each other, so why downplay it? Why minimize it? All the times Konoha was attacked and you never showed Sakura being worried for her parents? No one ever asked?
I'm so glad for Tsunade in that sense.
Erase her team, who is she?
A Senju. She's the granddaughter of two of the most powerful shinobis to ever exist and she does something with it. It isn't just a mention. She was an older sister and we were able to explore that connection with Nawaki. She was a lover to Dan and we saw her love for him multiple times. Do you want to ease all men in her life? She's a medic nin, the best in the world. She changed the way wars were fought. She has a pet and she has an apprentice, Shizune. The bond between Shizune and Tsunade is deep and developed through the story. She was a rival to grandma Chiyo. She was a sensei to Sakura too, taught her all she knew and trained her so no man could ever step over her again as if nothing. She was a killer. She was freaking Hokage.
If it wasn't for Tsunade, Sakura wouldn't have been allowed to be multidimensional like her. In fact, even after Tsunade, the story kept portraying Sakura like just the female crush, the healer for them to survive, blah blah blah.
They made Kurenai only a mom. Wrote Anko off. Treated the kunoichis of the Konoha 12 as an afterthought. Hell, they gave Sasuke another girl love triangle with Karin. A freaking Uzumaki girl and they did that. At least Temari is as chained to her siblings as they are to her.
If you erase Tsunade, tell me how the female characters of Naruto stand? Because every single male character is someone outside their female friends or lovers or whatever.
What about the girls? What about them?

Some Housekeeping.
Tumblr media
As we approach the release of the first officially canon installment of Keeping Up With The Uzumakis, our team would like to clarify some information about the canon status of the much beloved pilot, Happy Birthday Boruto, and what the story will look like going forward. These notes are as follows.
As per our last press release, Happy Birthday Boruto is no longer canon, meaning it did not canonically happen in the official KUWTU timeline. However, it is still necessary reading to understand and fully enjoy the KUWTU story. To be more specific, much like the villagers in Konoha were not legally permitted to tell Naruto about his status as the Nine Tails Jinchuuriki, villagers of the modern KUWTU era are not legally permitted to tell the new generation the truth about Sasuke's activities during the war. Hence, this is a subject much shrouded in mystery; only people alive during the war are aware of his murky past, and a select few know what truly happened on the fateful night of the Uchiha Massacre. Sasuke's past is a source of curiosity, most notably for his daughter, Uchiha Sarada.
Despite this rather significant change, the relationships and attitudes established in Happy Birthday Boruto remain critical to understanding KUWTU going forward. Happy Birthday Boruto's noncanon status does not make it optional reading.
The final piece of additional information necessary to enjoy KUWTU to it's fullest is that Sasuke left Sakura and Sarada within two years of Sarada's birth. He has been gone for 10 years, and at the story's beginning, he has been back in Konoha semi-permanently for about four months. Inojin does NOT know about the affair.
Lastly, KUWTU posts will henceforth be organized in two separate tags: #keeping up with the uzumakis will be used solely for the main story and press releases which are critical to following the story. #kuwtuwc (Keeping Up With The Uzumakis: With Cheese) will be used for extra content and discussion.
Thank you for sticking with us during this transition.
As a reminder, Episode 0 can be read here.

Kumo Thoughts
So this will hopefully be quick but the most common take I see for Kumo in the Naruto fandom is that it's a overly militaristic hellhole (pardon the language) that kidnaps and forcibly breeds any bloodline it can get its hands on and like.
I get it?
the Naruto ninja world is absolutely messed up enough to accommodate a village like that. Especially with- *waves at Kiri*, *waves at ROOT*, *waves at Ame*, *wa-*. But I feel like personally I think that's. The shallowest take? Like if that's how you wanna world build it! You can! Lots of angst and interesting subterfuge down that way.
But we seen in canon that shinobi who live in Really horrible villages do tend to go missing-nin en masse; Kiri is the poster child for this, but Iwa and Suna both have some ... pretty noticeable defections. On the flip side the only REAL Kumo missing-nin we see, iirc, are the Kinkaku brothers.
From The First Shinobi War.
Like- what are things we know about Kumo *really* from the show/s?
and the one everyone harps on in worldbuilding- they tried to kidnap Hinata and Kushina.
HOWEVER. The rest of the things we know about them are:
2. Their Raikage is allergic to doors. He refuses to acknowledge doors. He can and will smash through any wall, window, or other non-door entity in order to exit or enter a room when at all possible. This is not the behavior of a Strict Rigid Militaristic Man this is the behavior of a feral gorilla someone stuffed in an office and expected to do paperwork. Which, granted, A is fully capable of doing his paperwork, by all accounts he's actually really good at running his village. But again. This man is allergic to doors or manners and anyone who is willing to arm wrestle Senju Tsunade to get medical assistance for his own men can't be all bad let's be real.
3. Killer B exists. I feel like he alone is enough evidence against the "military breeding program hellhole" fanon but to break it down. This "brother" of A is not actually his brother. In canon, B is literally just- *some kid*, AT BEST a cousin of the previous Jinchuuriki but that is not confirmed iirc, that was among several other kids that were all lined up and told "we need a new Jinchuuriki and A needs a fighting buddy, run at this training dummy and see if you can help him decapitate it" and when B was the one who succeeded they went "congrats you're his brother now, here's your complimentary octopus monster". And like everyone just accepts this? Not a SINGLE person calls B as a fake brother or points out that he and A are not actually related. Not to mention B has the strongest and most stable relationship with his Biju until Naruto and Kurama work out their bromance, and B was rocking that friendship with his biju *years* before Naruto even knew Kurama was a Thing That Existed.
4. B is also beloved by his village. BELOVED. The people adore him and his weird rapping nonsense. And yeah there's flashbacks in the anime to that not being the case when he was first introduced but B was actually able to work on changing their minds. You really think "small feral child rapping at civilians to make them warm up to him" would have flown in Kiri? In Iwa who canonically keep abusing their jinchuuriki to the point of running off? Nope. No sir. B is also allowed to have a team of his own, and seems to not only be an accepted member of the village but also a much trusted and beloved one who is even allowed his own team? Even Konoha doesn't have that good a track record lbr. It took Naruto face punching the guy who just committed genocide on the entire village for Konoha to go "you know what? We like you now".
5. One of the only other jinchuuriki we see that has fully mastered their Biju state and is on good terms with their Biju while also not being a missing-nin (or brainwashed and then immediately dead) is ALSO a Kumo ninja. Namely the holder of the Two Tails. Now on the wiki it says that she was put through a "detestable" training program but we all know how inconsistent Kishi is with... everything worldbuilding ever. And if we go off behavior alone from the brief scenes with her, Yugito Nii is?? Really stable??? And solid with her Biju??? She gave her pawprint for an Uchiha child's book of cat paw prints for crying out loud.
6. throughout the entire show, Jinchuuriki are consistently treated as the lowest class citizens. In basically every village. Naruto in Konoha, Kushina cried when she realized Minato was going to make Naruto a Jinchuuriki and put him through what she went through growing up as one so you know she didn't have a great time either, GAARA is his own entire dissertation on Jinchuuriki treatment and stability, Fuu was raised by the village leader of her village but had zero friends and was canonically super lonely and isolated, Han and Roku straight up ran away from Iwa because of whatever they were put through, a maneuver only repeated in another village by Utakata from Kiri. But in Kumo we find two jinchuuriki who have mastered their biju, are well respected by their peers and fellow citizens, and are basically treated like any other really weirdo ninja from the village barring needing to be monitored with bodyguards in B's case, which is mostly because he keeps running away to go train under rap artists so you can understand why A is ready to go frothing at the mouth feral at his brother sometimes.
All I'm saying is that if even the village's "monsters" are treated that way, why does everyone stick with the fanon that they're a breeding, bloodline stealing hellhole?
Imo it would be WAY more fun to world build Kumo as the feral mountain ninja-mandalorians of the Elemental Nations, who have a reputation for bloodline theft because they keep finding Actual Strays, Refugees from other villages, and Illegitimate bloodline children and going: YO ANYONE GONNA ADOPT THIS? and not waiting for an answer. Your a missing ninja from Kiri and you're fed up with both them and missing-nin life and want to come work for us? Great. Oh you also have a valuable kekkei genkai that can be inherited? Awesome have you heard of our red light district and child support program or better yet our tax deductible program for marrying one of our lovely civilians and raising a family here where no bloodline purges will ever happen ever. Oh you're a stray Uzumaki on the run from bloodline hunters? Well we may have been involved in destroying Uzushio (depends on your fan interpretation since canonically we do not know which villages did that other than Not Konoha) but we also have hot food, good housing, high ninja standards of living, and free weekly entertainment in betting when our Raikage is going to launch his desk at his brother like a high speed missile because B's rapping got too cringy.
Let Hinata's and Kushina's kidnapping either be the exception to their usual playbook of how they acquire bloodlines (hey it's not their fault if the other villages can't keep it in their pants/can't inspire loyalty) OR have it be seen, culturally in Kumo, as something more akin to a rescue mission. Yes these two girls are useful and have useful bloodlines, that's tactically wise, but also have you SEEN how Konoha treats their jinchuuriki? They have seal master princess and are treating her like a dog on a leash! And literally everyone knows what the Hyuuga do to their own kids if they aren't main branch, and we can't rescue any of those kids without their eyeballs exploding and them dying but hey we can snag the heiress and then any kids she has won't have to be branded so-.
Like I feel that would be so much more INTERESTING? Instead of having Konoha be the only "nice" village and make this weird tonal dissonance for how the "nice" village has the most incompetent leadership (Sarutobi) and underground atrocities (Danzo and Orochimaru) while every other village is Horrible All The Time For Everyone why not have Kumo be actually Really Functional and treat their shinobi and Jinchuuriki well and their horrible reputation is *mostly* (not entirely, because. Ninja.) be cultural clashes between the feral mountain ninja and Everyone Else and propaganda from the other villages who would like their shinobi to STOP DEFECTING TO KUMO PLEASE. WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY HAVE DENTAL.
Seriously I feel like there is so much more you could do with that angle than just "yet another shinobi village that is Bad and Awful and Needs The Power of Friendship yet somehow has this really stupid goofy jinchuuriki man who loves his brother and his village shut up don't think about it".

I have a JJK x Naruto Crossover I think you'd like
So it's in the Naruto world, but curses and cursed energy exist as a separate thing from chakra. Jujutsu schools are scattered across the Nations, working together to keep the curses from destroying the world.
Shinobi and sorcerers really do not like each other. The shinobi hate how uncertain they are of the sorcerers loyalty as sorcerers consider themselves to be loyal to each other rather than any of the countries they are in. They often refuse to let sorcerers into the villages. The only reason they haven't all been killed is because although chackra can't kill a curse they can see them and seal them like bijuu. Sorcerers hate shinobi because while they're sacrificing their lives to protect the world the shinobi are actively creating more curses with their warfare and preventing the sorcerers from killing the curses in the villages. Also shinobi sometimes use sealed curses as weapons, which is stupid and bad.
Sidenote real fast, Hoshigaki Kisame isn't part of the Akatsuki here because Gojo was like, "hmm. I need a teacher to teach my students shinobi things so they don't get assassinated. I think this weird shark guy would be great!" So Kisame is living his best life getting to be a nice, loyal guy and is one of the only shinobi that sorcerers tolerate.
The main plot of this AU is related to the bijuu. You know how in Naruto the bijuu have the ability to sense malice and sometimes go out of their way to kill evil humans? Well in this AU what they are actually sensing is cursed energy and their job is to disperse large build ups of cursed energy to keep the formation of cursed spirits down. They are deeply venerated and respected by sorcerers for this. So guess who was absolutely furious when the shinobi started sealing them?
The only reason the sorcerers haven't gone to war over the whole thing is because without the bijuu, they're being stretched thinner and thinner as they try to keep the cursed spirit population down. Death rates among sorcerers have easily doubled or tripled, as, even if there's still very few special grades, there's just so many of the weaker ones.
This whole thing makes Geto even worse than in canon.
So in the midst of all this tension, Team Seven runs into Gojo's first year students on some kind of mission involving missing nin creating curses on purpose. Between Naruto's naruto-ness and Itadori's friendliness, they actually manage to work together and are a little friendly by the end of it.
And then it somehow comes out that Naruto is the ninetales jinchuuriki and the jjk kids lose their shit. Even Sukuna's upset, he just found out about the whole thing and his belief in humanity somehow dropped further into the negatives than it already was.
Like, they are genuinely ready to kill Naruto over this, and team seven is so confused because they were friendly a second ago, and then both their teachers show up and everything gets worse.
And the thing is, most shinobi don't know about the bujuu-sorcerer connection. The general run of the mill shinobi barely knows anything about sorcerers, and team seven actually learned more than their teachers ever told them on this mission. And it would be so confusing and stressful for them to realize that the monster that they all fear is a respected colleague to these people, and the bijuus loss is genuinely killing the sorcerers.
Just the idea that the monster sealed inside of him isn't a monster, that it was sealed wrongfully, would break Naruto a little bit.
I don't know where this would end up going. Having Kenjaku and Madara/Obito pulling shit at the same time would be a nightmare. I just really like the idea of sorcerers and shinobi having to deal with each other, and of the ninja having to think about the fact that sealing a living being and using them as a battery and weapon for a century is really fucked up, and it's no wonder they try to kill you every time they get out.
This is absolutely delightful and I need 100k of it stat

Students' students AU part 4
Part 1, part 2 and part 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And so they tell Naruto everything they know. That Minato was his father, Jiraya's student, they tell about his skills and mention how great he was in the war. Kakashi also tells Naruto he lost his team in that same war, not as many details, but does mention Minato was in charge of his team during those battles. They do tell him he was, in fact, the hokage and explain that the fox was previously sealed inside someone else, and how he died when the it was released.
Tsunade tells Naruto about his clan, their history, her own relation to Mito, where they came from and what they could do. She tells him about Kushina, how kind and determined she was, Jiarya and Kakashi add their own comments about her, great fighter and even greater person. How she accepted her fate while never losing herself. And then tell him she was his mother and jinchuuriki. They don't know the details of how the seal was broken, but tell Naruto everything his parents sacrificed for him and to save both he and the village.
They try to explain Hiruzen's idea of keeping it all a secret was to protect him, but don't excuse him. His plan failed and his mistakes came back to snake bite him. Tsunade wants Naruto to decide his own path, knowing the full truth, it's the least she can do.
After that, Kakashi knows Naruto is gonna need a little comforting, but doesn't trust any of the adults at that moment, so asks Sakura and Sasuke to make sure he's okay.
